Michiel began his career in the legal department of the reputable Arnold + Siedsma office, which has traditionally specialised in patent law in particular. He then worked for five years with Van der Steenhoven Advocaten as an IP lawyer, before setting up his own office with three colleagues at the end of 2007. In 2010, this office merged with Arnold + Siedsma, to which he returned as a partner.
Michiel is the co-founder and editor of wwwboek9.nl. He is a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the Licensing Executive Society (LES), the Benelux Vereniging voor Merken en Modellenrecht (BMM) [Benelux Association for Trademark and Design Law] and the Vereniging voor Auteursrecht (VvA) [Copyright Association]. He is currently an active member of the regulatory team of the Association of European Trademark Owners (MARQUES) and the anti-counterfeit committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA). He also lectures and publishes on a regular basis.
